Good morning team! It’s the last classic format Barbecue, Bets, and Beats blog of the year and I have to say, I think we’re going out with quite the bang. We’ve got a brand spanking new barbecue joint. It’s conference championship week in college football. And we’ve had an absolutely massive year in music.

Before we immerse ourselves in the smoked meats, shoddy betting picks, and musical suggestions - we do have some more housekeeping items.

First, I find myself pretty much back at square one from when I penned a note on the future almost exactly a year ago. My full-time job with Pokatok allowed me to work in sports from March to October and I was incredibly lucky to do that even if I desperately wish that the job had lasted longer. Unfortunately, I’m currently unemployed (full-time, at least - I still have part-time content gigs carrying me through the season). So if you work in sports, particularly college football, reach out!

Barbecue, Bets, and Beats is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Second, with the shift to paid for the newsletter, I really just want to reiterate how grateful I am to those of you who made the leap with me and decided to contribute. I’m also grateful to the free subscribers, and folks who just drop in on occasion as well! With January approaching, we’re closing in on two years of the newsletter and I couldn’t do it without y’all.

Finally, as ever, I am thinking about doing a monthly mailbag here on Barbecue, Bets, and Beats. If that is something that would interest you, please let me know.

Now, let’s dive into the stuff you really came for.
